Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I know if therapy is right for me?
Therapy can be helpful if you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, disconnected, or simply wanting to understand yourself better. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit. Many people come to therapy for support during life transitions, relationship challenges, stress, or personal growth. If you’re curious, that’s often a good place to start.
2. What can I expect in the first session?
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, your goals, and any relevant background. I’ll also explain my approach and answer your questions. There’s no pressure to share everything at once, we’ll go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
3. How long does therapy usually last?
The length of therapy varies depending on your goals, needs, and preferences. Some clients come for short-term support around a specific issue, while others choose longer-term therapy for deeper work. We’ll regularly check in to make sure therapy is meeting your needs.
4. Do you accept insurance?
I am a private-pay practice and do not accept insurance. I can provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement if your plan allows.
5. How much does a session cost?
Sessions are 50 minutes and cost $150 per session. Payment is due at the time of service. Please contact me if you have questions about fees or superbills.
6. Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Therapy is confidential, and your privacy is very important. There are a few legal exceptions to confidentiality, such as concerns about safety or abuse, which I will explain clearly during our first session.
7. Do you offer in-person or online therapy?
I offer teletherapy sessions for clients located in California. Our session will be conducted through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform.
8. What issues do you specialize in?
I specialize in trauma-focused therapy and work primarily with individuals who have experienced trauma, including complex trauma. I offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy, an evidence-based approach that can help reduce the emotional impact of distressing experiences. I am an EMDRIA-certified therapist and tailor treatment to each client’s unique needs and readiness.
9. What is your cancellation policy?
Your appointment time is reserved specifically for you. I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. There is no charge for cancellations made with more than 24 hours’ notice. Appointments canceled within 24 hours of the scheduled time, or missed without notice, are charged the full session fee of $150.
10. What if I’m nervous or unsure about starting therapy?
That’s completely normal. Many people feel anxious before their first session. Therapy is a supportive, non-judgmental space, and you’re always in control of what you choose to share. Showing up is already a meaningful first step.
